Why would you need an Ultrasound scan?

An ultrasound scan is used for diagnosing various medical conditions by providing real-time images of soft tissues and organs. It is commonly employed to monitor pregnancy, guide precodures such as biopsies, evaluate pain or swelling, assess blood flow, and examine musculoskeletal issues. The scan is non-invasive, does not involve radiation, and helps in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Can I self-refer for an Ultrasound scan?

Generally, you cannot self-refer for an ultrasound scan; a healthcare provider usually needs to provide the referral.

Can I access my scan images online?

No, you cannot access your scan images online since the hospital’s website does not support this feature.

Is it comfortable?

The comfort level during an ultrasound scan is generally quite high. The procedure is non-invasive and usually painless. You will be asked to lie on an examination table, and a gel will be applies to the area being scanned to help the ultrasound probe make good contact with your skin. Most people find the experience relatively comfortable, although you may need to stay still for a short period.

Can I speak to a member of staff during my scan?

Yes, you can typically speak to a member of staff during your ultrasound scan. The technician or radiographer will be available to answer any questions and guide you through the process.
